"For Now"  (Lyrics)

Here starts the journey Eyes wide open,

And I think it's time to change my point of you.

No more excuses, or turning a blind eye,

To the writing I can see up on the wall.

To hide again?,

No sense in running away anymore.

To cry again?,

Well maybe just a little, but for not too long.

But to try again,

Is all anybody really can ask for now.

(tick tock)

Isn't it time for change, (tick tock),

Isn't it time for change, (tick tock!)

Isn't it time, (tick tock!!)

Isn't it time, (tick tock!!!)

Isn't it time for change?

So here's to the future,

My mind has been open,

I'm sometimes lost but finally got a clue,

No more confusion, ready for a lifetime,

I've realized, I've got a lot to do.

To smile again,

Not going to let myself get in the way,

I'm proud again,

Even though I know I'm living still finding a way,

But to try again,

Is all anybody really can ask, for now.

"For Now" From the songwriter,

I had the lyrics before the music on this one, and once I sat down on the piano the song wrote itself. The inspiration/idea for this song came from supporting a family member who was coping and dealing with addiction. I attended meetings, met with her counselors, and witnessed first hand the struggles and consequences that my cousin and others were dealing with. Very quickly I developed personal relationships with some of the others in treatment and their family members. As the program progressed new people would join the existing group and during one of these meetings I thought about what I might say as a songwriter to someone new. There’s a delicate balance between coping with the harsh reality of whatever life situation you’re in and validating recovery. As a “normal” I know I’m an outsider to those who are in a program so I didn’t want to preach, judge, or make too much of my own role as family member... all in about three minutes! I’ll be producing a more complete version of this song very soon, and this live piano/vocal performance is being used as a frame for the bass player and drummer.

Take Care, Bill
